SLIPKNOT need no introduction. It’s been more than four years since the release of the all time masterpiece titled “Vol.3 The Subliminal Verses” and all expectations have gone sky high for quite a while. We’ve read tons of interviews; we’ve paid needless attention to rumors; we’ve tolerated substandard side projects of the bands members for months; and still no official release to be seen. The upcoming “All Hope Is Gone” album is finally scheduled to be released in August 2008 and “Psychosocial” kind of worked like a sneak preview treat for us all.
The 2 tracks that are included in the “Psychosocial” release (I’m not going to comment on the edited version of Psychosocial) are taken straight from the “All Hope Is Gone Album” that was produced by Dave Fortman and Slipknot and mixed by Colin Richardson. The material definitely left me with a bittersweet taste since it is obviously performed with the familiar and beloved forcefulness and technique yet I’m not really sure I enjoyed the endeavor in terms of songwriting (long solo guitar parts and disorientating vocal lines are not exactly my cup of tea).
The groovy parts, on the other hand, as well as the choruses are sensational and both tracks seem to have the “radio hit” aesthetics we’ve all been waiting for. The band seems to have deep knowledge of the strong spots of the “Vol.3 The Subliminal Verses” album and, at some points, presents composition parts that could easily be included in that album. These two tracks seem to be far from enough for me to reach a safe conclusion on how the upcoming album will sound like. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Hi, I'm Reevan and sometimes when I'm bored, i draw people in my head. I listen to music a lot but the best times are usually when I'm with my mates. I don't think many people know about me because I keep a low profile. I close my eyes and dream of strangers and I wonder whether I would have a chance to meet them in life, I really hope I do. You are not obliged to read my blog XD.
